Le Portetta Hotel

Le Portetta, Lime Wood’s snow covered sister

Have you heard of the new hotel in the New Forest, yup, Lime Wood, the one on everyone’s lips – well Le Portetta in Courchevel 1650 is its snow covered little sister and is every bit as charming and well-staffed.  Le Portetta had a soft opening last season following a serious refurb and, thanks to much praise from delighted guinea-pigs, Le Portetta is confidently launching this season along with four gleaming French stars – those Frenchies don’t give away accolades easily especially to the Brits.

Sitting slap bang on the nursery slopes in 1650, Le Portetta has 38 rooms, six lofts, a restaurant, spa area, ski rental shop and a sun terrace, a honey pot for the sun-kissed, ski weary piste and powder hounds of the Trois Vallées.  The sun catches Le Portetta’s terrace just as thighs are burning and dry mouths are yearning for a well earned vin chaud or local Mutzig beer, the latter of which comes with a health warning – ‘very potent’.

Within the hotel the room categories are named in a ‘as it says on the tin’ way, which suits us skiing simpletons.  There are Piste views which sleep 2, Mountain views sleeping 2, Family piste views which sleep 6 and Family mountain views which sleep 6 – told you it was for simpletons.  Each room, be it for families or for couples, has sumptuous amounts of space, en-suite bathrooms, great interiors and views of those glorious Alps.

Down below, one of the most talked about aspects of the hotel is the boot room, something that doesn’t normally invite much comment, but has been heralded as ‘the most civilised ski/boot room this side of the Atlantic.’  The spa area has a sauna, steam room and fitness room just in case the skiing hasn’t knackered you out, and the ski rental shop within Le Portetta’s four walls makes this hotel close to perfection for families in particular.  A hop, skip and a jump leads guests straight out from ski shop to nursery slope, leaving very little room for glove dropping or infantile whingeing.

For the hotel - it costs from £133 per night based on two people sharing and includes dinner, bed and breakfast.  Bookings can be made directly through Le Portetta – 0033 479 080 147; info@leportetta.com; www.leportetta.com
